Cancellation guide

How to cancel Ashley Madison

Ashley Madison's website blocked our automated checks, so we couldn't confirm its menu labels. The safe route: stop any automatic payment from your account's billing area on the website, or in Apple or Google subscriptions if you paid in the app, then check for 'AMDA' on your next statement.

Before you start

  • Find out how you pay: directly on the site, or through Apple or Google Play. The route to cancel is different.
  • Note the renewal date in your account and cancel before it.
  • Keep the confirmation email or a screenshot, and check your bank statement after the next cycle.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Find out how you paid

Look for 'AMDA' on your card statement (the descriptor named in the App Store listing) or an Apple or Google receipt. App purchases are cancelled with the store, website purchases in your account.

  2. 2

Open your account settings on the website

Log in on the website and look for the billing, payment or membership section. We couldn't confirm the exact menu labels.

  3. 3

Turn off any automatic payment or top-up

Switch off any recurring payment or automatic purchase you find there, before your next billing date.

  4. 4

    Keep proof

Save the confirmation email or take a dated screenshot of your billing settings.

  5. 5

Check the next statement for AMDA

On your next bank or card statement, check that no new 'AMDA' charge appears. If it does, contact support@ashleymadison.com, the address on the Irish App Store listing, with your proof.

Paid through Apple or Google?

If you paid in the iPhone app, cancel in Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android, cancel in Google Play subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a store subscription.

Cooling-off period and refunds

We couldn't read Ashley Madison's own terms on withdrawal or refunds, because its site blocked our checks. On the Irish App Store, Ruby Life Inc. identifies itself as a trader and confirms the product complies with EU law. For App Store purchases, refund requests go to Apple; otherwise contact support@ashleymadison.com.

For the general rules on cancelling services bought online in Ireland, see the CCPC's guide. General information, not legal advice.

Deleting your profile vs stopping payments

Hiding or deleting a profile and stopping a payment are not always the same thing, and we couldn't read Ashley Madison's help page on this. Stop any automatic payment first and keep proof, then deal with the profile.

If it still charges you

Contact Ashley Madison's support with your confirmation and the date you cancelled. If you paid by card and can't get a response, talk to your bank or card provider about the payment. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, ask them for help from your purchase history.

Thinking of trying something else? Read our Ashley Madison review or the guide to choosing a casual dating site in Ireland, and run any new trial through the true-cost calculator first.
